Henry Street Deli in Burlington Vermont has great brownies. I’m not normally one of the weirdo chewy brownie people (I prefer the inside no-edge brownies); but these brownies manage to be chewy and moist:

Henry Street Deli - Brownies
A dusting of powered sugar belays the artisan nature of these choco bricks. The texture fest is completed with the all important crispy top layer and subterranean chocolate chips. I believe the brownies are baked every couple days by a local guy, and are priced ~$2.50.

Euro Corner - Burlington Vermont (closed)
I have sad news sopressata fans, it looks like Euro Corner is closed. It looks like you can purchase sopressata at the associated Euro Market.
I moped my way next door to August First a new bakery / cafe / deli. In the above picture it’s on the left.
I chose the curried chicken salad sandwich:

August First - Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich
The baguette was great, crispy and chewy, without feeling like a jaw muscle workout. The chicken salad was good, August first appears to use the whole chicken instead of just the breast so the texture is a bit different that you might be accustomed to. The slightly tart cranberries are a nice counterpoint to the curry. The balsamic vinegar salad dressing was awesome, nice emulsion, and very fresh tasting. ~$9.00 with tax.
It’s definitely worth checking out, and they’re in a nice space.
August first appears to be hitting the social media with updates, kudos for that effort.
Hopefully they’ll add sopressata to the menu.

After the dearth of good Philly Cheesesteaks in town, on my way home on Friday I stopped at a suspicious cart on Bank Street (near the corner of Bank and Church) in Burlington Vermont:

Philly Cart - Burlington Vermont
After a quick interrogation of the vendor, I discovered he was indeed slinging cheesesteaks.
The Amoroso bakeryplacard plastered on the side of the cart may have been a good clue. Notice the above photo the technique. He chops the fresh shaved ribeye steak “from New York” on the cooler (left) side of the griddle then added pre-sweated onions to the mix and grills it on the right hotter side.

Philly Cheesesteak - Burlington Vermont
Three slices of American cheese also are part of the formula. All of this is crammed into the aforementioned famous (for Phillys) roll.
The taste? Tremendous! It reminds me of when I had my first “cheesesteak” on a family trip to Maine, known in those parts as a “steak bomb”.
This folks is a mean mean cheesesteak, I’m not sure if it will earn my number one cheesesteak spot; I’ll have to
do some more “research”. The vendor promises to be around starting at 11am during the week, save Mondays and Tuesdays.
Oh and it’s $6.

Top of The Block Sandwich Shoppe - Burlington Vermont
In honor of my iPhone 3G no longer being broken, I thought I would update the blog. I like Top of the Block Sandwich Shoppe for two reasons:
1) Excellent chicken wraps
2) part of a weird internal mall.
It’s located ironically at the top block of Church Street in Burlington Vermont.

Top of The Block Sandwich Shoppe - Southwest chicken wrap
This was a special of the day: spiced chicken, black beans, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, corn, cheddar, all on a toasted/grilled wrap. $7.43 with tax and it’s yours.
I didn’t take any pictures of the internal mall, but the “Shoppe” and seating area opened up to a basement and second level containing various “shops”, very interesting.
