Radio Deli is a lunch spot I like to hit up on Pearl Street when going to the post office or the mall. The proprietors are very funny conservationists and seem to be serious about providing good, inexpensive food for their customers.

I saw Cabot cheddar mac and cheese on Radio Deli’s blog but it was sold out by the time I got there. Instead I got one of my standbys “chili over rice” which comes with optional cheddar. It’s got a little celery, onions, green pepper, as well as lots of beans, meat and stewed tomatoes. The rice is white, and not over cooked (kudos).

I’ve found that the chili is much happier as pictured with the addition of Sriracha. The chili over rice is a great value @ $4.75 pre-tax.

Radio Deli takes their brownies seriously, and this is easily the best brownie for the money in town @ $.99 pre-tax.  There is the key micro crispy top layer, as well as small chocolate chunks to break up the texture; Well done Radio Deli.

In honor of my iPhone 3G no longer being broken,  I thought I would update the blog. I like Top of the Block Sandwich Shoppe for two reasons:

1) Excellent chicken wraps

2) part of a weird internal mall.

It’s located ironically at the top block of Church Street in Burlington Vermont.

This was a special of the day: spiced chicken, black beans, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, corn, cheddar, all on a toasted/grilled wrap. $7.43 with tax and it’s yours.

I didn’t take any pictures of the internal mall, but the “Shoppe” and seating area opened up to a basement and second level containing various “shops”, very interesting.

Sneakers, “Apple & Cheddar Stuffed French Toast”

January 2, 2008

Last Sunday I was back to Sneakers in Winooski Vermont for breakfast / brunch. This time, I was intrigued my one of their specials:

Sneakers - Apple Chedder Stuffed French toast
Sneakers – Apple Cheddar Stuffed French toast, cranberry compote, scoop of vanilla ice-cream on top, side of eggs and bacon.

Bam! Sneakers has awesomely creative and tasty specials, I present these french toast as evidence. The cheddar wasn’t very noticeable, so the effect was something like french toast apple pie a la mode. The contrast in temperatures was nice. Also contrasting were the saltiness, of the toast (likely the cheddar), crispness of the toast, and the creaminess of the ice-cream. The cranberry compote served to bring a little acid into the mix, and blended well with the sweetness of the apples and ice-cream.

The eggs were fine (I forgot to order mine with cheese), and the bacon (4 pieces) was awesome, Sneakers consistently has some of the best bacon around (crispy but not dry). The coffee was the usual average, which is disappointing considering Blue Star Cafe is a couple doors down.

The special was a steal at $8.95 (it may have included coffee also).
